The Deputy-Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Nguyen Dong Tien presented the diploma of merit, granted by the SBV Governor, to Mr Jochem Lange, Country Director of Deutsche Gesellschaft fur International Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) Vietnam; the Commemorative Medal for contribution to the development of Vietnam's Banking system was also presented to Mr Lange, Mr Michael Krakowski (Programme Director and Chief Technical Advisor to the “Macroeconomic Reform/ Green Growth Programme”) and other key GIZ personnel from the programme to acknowledge their effective and active contribution in providing support to the restructuring and development of Vietnam's banking sector in the presence of German Ambassador to Vietnam Christian Berger.
At the award ceremony, the Deputy-Governor expressed his great appreciation for the contributions made by the GIZ and it's staff, considering it to be a symbol of their trustworthy and sincere relationship. The Deputy Governor expressed his desire to continue receiving interest and support from the German Government and German Embassy in Vietnam and the GIZ.
Ambassador Berger stressed that boosting the development of the financial sector was of particular importance in the strategic partnership, which was agreed upon by Vietnam’s Prime Minister and German’s Chancellor in the “Hanoi Declaration” in October 2011.
Expressing his gratitude for the SBV's trust and recognition, Mr Jochem Lange, GIZ Country Director shared his feelings of pride in the achievements of the cooperative activities over the past 22 years between the GIZ and SBV, and appreciated the awards by SBV as a special honour for the staff of the “Macroeconomic Reform/ Green Growth Programme”, as well as for all of the GIZ staff in Vietnam.
Within the cooperative framework set up between the two governments from 1993 until now, the German Government and GIZ has continuously developed numerous programmes and projects in the support of the rapid and sustainable development of the Vietnamese banking sector in the context of economic transformation and comprehensive international integration. For more than 20 years, GIZ has been proactively supporting the SBV in formulating legal and institutional frameworks to implement its state management functions more efficiently and ensuring the safe, sound and effective operation of the banking system, including the Law of the State Bank of Vietnam, the Law on Credit Institutions, monetary policies and instruments, especially open-market operational instruments, an anti-dollarisation strategy, internal audits and an internal control framework for commercial banks.
The “Macroeconomic Reform/ Green Growth Programme” between the GIZ and the SBV is aimed at supporting SBV in formulating an institutional and policy framework, the enhancement of it's capacity for green financial banking and credit, thereby supporting the SBV in the successful implementation of the tasks assigned by the Government for green growth and economic restructuring towards a sustainable path.
