The Deputy-Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Nguyen Thi Hong held a working meeting with the Vietnam Initiative Delegation on December 14, 2016 at the SBV headquarters.

The meeting was attended by representatives of SBV entities, Ph.D Tran Ngoc Anh, Director of Vietnam Initiative-cum-Associate Professor at Indiana University Bloomington (USA), and Professor Andreas Hauskrecht from Indiana University.
At the meeting, Deputy-Governor Nguyen Thi Hong expressed her great appreciation for the contributions made by Vietnamese individuals and organizations oversea to the country, including the Vietnam Initiative. The Deputy-Governor emphasised that the SBV greatly appreciates the analysis and the assessment of researchers and experts on the macro-economy and monetary operation as well as establishing training programmes for SBV staff.
At the meeting, Ph.D Tran Ngoc Anh talked about the main substance of monetary policy and cooperative programmes between the Vietnam Initiative and the SBV. In addition, Prof. Hauskrecht analysed the impact of the U.S. Federal Reserve Bank's interest rate increase on the global economy in general and the Vietnamese economy in particular.
The Vietnam Initiative, which was established in 2009, is a global center for research and training in development policy for Vietnam. It is based at the School of Public and Environmental Affairs (SPEA) at Indiana University, Bloomington, which is the top-ranked university in public administration studies in the US. It is a non-governmental, non-political, academic institution with the mission of promoting the development of Vietnam.
In the research field, the Vietnam Initiative regularly conducts policy analyses as requested by Vietnamese policymakers. These analyses are carried out by its research associates from more than 40 major universities, law firms, and international institutions across the U.S. and around the world.
In the training field, the Vietnam Initiative runs several large programs to prepare outstanding individuals for leadership positions in the Vietnamese Government. Funded by the Vietnamese Government and Indiana University, these programs allow Vietnamese students to study at the Master, PhD and executive levels.
