Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with delegation from International Investment Bank (IIB) led by IIB Deputy Chairman Vladimir Liventsev in Hanoi on March 1. The IIB delegation worked with the SBV and other relevant entities and agencies to discuss the cooperation strategy of IIB with Vietnam for the next five years.
At the meeting, IIB Deputy Chairman Vladimir Liventsev reported to the SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong about the main substances of IIB Development Strategy for 2018-2020 period, including the implementation of reform activities in order to enhance support and connection of member countries, increase membership and improve its capital resources. The IIB assessed that over the past time, Vietnam’s economy reached a dynamic growth and acknowledged Vietnam is a potential market to get priorities from IIB in the next period under three main forms of investment including funding to projects in Vietnam in the forms of co-funding or independent loans; funding to import and export activities, especially export activities among Vietnam and IIB members in Europe; and providing loans to medium and small enterprises via domestic financial institutions. IIB hoped to focus on connecting economies of members apart from direct funding.
For her part, Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong expressed her sincere thanks to IIB for its cooperation and support for Vietnam. She also supported directives and development strategy of IIB; and emphasized that Vietnam was always an active member to raise its voice and contribute to the implementation of Resolutions in order to accelerate the IIB’s reform process.
About cooperation between IIB and Vietnam as mentioned in IIB’s Development Strategy in the next period, the SBV Deputy Governor highly appreciated the cooperation strategy and briefed the IIB Vice President of Vietnamese Government’s directives to ensure the IIB’s strategy will be in line with development orientations in Vietnam with a focus on agricultural and rural development, especially agriculture value chain, high-tech production, processing production for export and import, clean energy…She asserted that the SBV, as the representative entity of Vietnamese Government at the IIB, would closely cooperate with the IIB Management Board and IIB member countries to formulate and effectively implement the development strategy for the next period for the objectives of supporting development and connecting member countries.
