Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a work-meeting with Microsoft Delegation led by Mr Keshav S Dhakad Regional Director of Microsoft Digital Crimes Unit (DCU) for the Asia Pacific region, and Mr Michael Montoya, Chief Security Advisor (CSA), Enterprise Cybersecurity Group (ECG), Asia region of Microsoft Corporation on March 2, 2017 at the SBV headquarters.
The meeting was attended by representatives of SBV entities and specialists from Microsoft Corporation. At the meeting, Mr Keshav S Dhakad shared with Mr Nguyen Kim Anh the information about Microsoft Corporation strategy and its services provided in Vietnam.
Microsoft representatives also briefed Deputy Governor the management and application of cloud computing in banking sector as well as ensuring the information security on the basis of this technology. Mr. Keshav S Dhakad stated, Microsoft has various experience in cloud computing application with central banks of several countries. Therefore, Microsoft is willing to share the experiences and support the SBV in this field.
Microsoft specialists also proposed several recommendations to the SBV regarding to the application of Windows 10 in order to establish a modern, safe and secure environment of computing network and expressed his desire to expand cooperation with banks and companies in Vietnam.
On behalf of SBV Management Board, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh highly appreciated Microsoft Corporation for co-organizing the conference themed “Information security in the banking industry” on March 1, 2017 in Ha Noi. Deputy Governor asserted, the conference had brought useful information to the SBV and credit institutions that are useful to enhance awareness, information exchange, to update risk management experience and the challenges of information security as well as to use effectively the new technology, serving banking operation more efficiently.
Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh stated that the SBV and credit institutions acknowledged the advantages of using cloud computing for: saving the cost of investment; maintaining the security for the system operation; ensuring high level of security and safety, and consecutive business; and reducing the delivery time for products and services. Currently, the SBV has been doing researches and will soon issue the guidelines to manage cloud banking in 2017 on the basis of encouraging credit institutions to utilize the outstanding advantages of this service but still ensure the requirements of security and safety. In order to minimize risky for credit institutions, the utility of cloud computing in banking services will be deployed step by step in accordance with the roadmap.
Discussing the ongoing cooperation substances of the two sides, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh expressed his hope that Microsoft will continue supporting the SBV the following contents: Consulting the proper policy for banking sector to use cloud computing in banking industry in line with international and regional experience; Supporting and consulting to formulate the framework of IT risk governance and the process of risk assessment matching with international practices; Supporting to assess and monitor IT system of the SBV and training to improve capacity for SBV staffs of IT security check; Providing regularly the DCU reports so that the SBV can promptly direct the entities, credit institutions of the banking sector to deal with vulnerabilities and security risks.
