According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.92% in August 2017 against the previous month.
The prices in August of 10 out of 11 groups of commodities increased as compared to July. The prices of the group of medicines and health services registered the highest increased of 2.86% (with prices of health services up by 3.72%). Price hikes were also recorded in other groups namely transportation by 2.13%, food and catering services prices by 1.06% (with grain food prices and foodstuff prices increased by 0.31% and 1.64% respectively), housing and construction materials by 0.93%, and education by 0.57%. The prices of the group of commodities and other services rose 0.1%. Garments, textiles, hats and footwear increased by 0.09%. While the prices of groups of beverage and cigarette; family equipment and appliances; and culture, entertainment and tourism slightly increased by 0.07%, 0.03% and 0.01% respectively in comparison with July 2017.
By the end of August, postal services is the only group with price index decreased by 0.04%.
Average core inflation for 8 months rose 3.84% from the same period of 2016. Core inflation in August 2017 increased by 1.23% as compared to that of December 2016, and rose by YoY of 3.35%.
The gold price was up by 1.11% while USD depreciated by 0.03% against VND as compared to that of July 2017.
