On May 20, 2019 at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), a press conference on Banking Vietnam 2019 was organized by the SBV in coordination with the International Data Group (IDG) in order to disseminate the information about this event.
The press conference was chaired by Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa, Deputy Director in charge of the Banking Strategy Institute. At the conference, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoa shared that Banking Vietnam 2019 with the theme of “Financial inclusion in the rising movement of cashless economy” will be held on May 30, 2019 in Hanoi, with the participation of the representatives of the Central Economic Commission (CEC), the National Assembly’s Committee on Economic Affairs, the National Financial Supervisory Committee; representatives of the ministries and agencies (Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Information and Communication…); representatives from various institutes, universities, research centers, credit institutions and international organizations in Vietnam (World Bank, IMF, ADB…); SBV entities; scientists and specialists in the banking sector; other relevant institutions and entities.

Banking Vietnam is event aimed at exhibiting and introducing new achievements of the modern technology and IT applications in creating new products and services in the banking industry. At the same time, there will be conference sessions at Banking Vietnam for banking specialists and leaders as well as IT experts to exchange their views about solutions and strategies of developing banking services on the basis of application of information and communication technology (ICT) innovations.
Currently, Vietnam is putting enormous efforts to develop and later implement the National Strategy of Financial Inclusion. This is one of the key tasks which was assigned to the SBV to take lead in 2019. Financial inclusion is of significant importance not only to the socio-economic development but also to the national sustainable growth.
Therefore, the SBV has decided the theme of Baking Vietnam 2019 as “Financial inclusion in the rising movement of cashless economy” in order to meet the interests of the competent authorities, the international and domestic institutions and ensure the compliance with the current directives and policies of the banking sector.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hien, Deputy Director of the Banking Strategy Institute, added that Baking Vietnam 2019 will emphasize on the conference sessions and the exhibition with the overall goal of introducing new achievements of the digital technology and digital technology applications to the banking operations towards enhancing the ability of accessing banking services and improving the availability and utilities of banking services in Vietnam. Banking Vietnam 2019 is composed of one plenary session and two thematic sessions discussing the opportunities and challenges of the digital technology and the orientations to enhance financial inclusion in the rising movement of cashless economy in Vietnam.
A snapshot of the Conferencce
The plenary session of the Conference with the theme of “Financial inclusion in the rising movement of cashless economy” under the chairmanship of SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh will focus on the following substances: Current situation, challenges in the implementation of financial inclusion strategy in Vietnam; Expansion of financial services and orientations to a cashless economy; Viewpoints of Vietnamese commercial banks on financial inclusion; International experience in the implementation of cashless payment and application of electronic identification system.
The exhibition activities at Banking Vietnam 2019 are aimed to introduce the activities of several banks which are featured with the development of distribution channels, diversified financial and banking products and services on the basis of modern technology platform toward expanding the financial services and promoting financial inclusion. The Banking Technology Expo at Banking Vietnam 2019 is expected to gather nearly 30 expo booths from large commercial banks, leading technology corporations showcasing top modern products and solutions to the finance and banking sector.
