Welcoming Mr. Shayne Elliot to visit and work with the SBV, Deputy Governor Doan Thai Son acknowledged the contributions of the ANZ Bank Vietnam to the development of Vietnam’s financial banking sector over the past time. The Deputy Governor also expressed his beliefs that the ANZ Group would continue to make effective investments in Vietnam, and that the SBV always creates favorable conditions for foreign organizations to operate and prosper in Vietnam.
At the meeting, Deputy Governor Doan Thai Son and Mr. Shayne Elliott exchanged information on the economic development and the banking market in Vietnam. The Deputy Governor also exchanged about the recent developments in the macro management and the monetary policy of the SBV. In the context of global changes, the SBV has been managing to closely monitor the international economic situation, the macro balance and the market developments, thereby continuing to regulate the monetary policy, the interest rates and the exchange rates in an active, flexible and prudent manner. Especially in 2018 and 2019, S&P Global Ratings raised Vietnam's sovereign credit rating to BB, and recently in May 2019, Fitch Ratings upranked Vietnam’s outlook from “stable” to “positive”.
The restructuring of the system of credit institutions and the handling of NPLs has achieved positive results. Thanks to these efforts, over the past time, Vietnam’s banking system has continued to operate stably and make positive performance results.
Expressing his sincere thanks for the useful information shared by Deputy Governor Doan Thai Son, Mr. Shayne Elliott conveyed his congratulations on the achievements made by Vietnam and the SBV. Mr. Shayne Elliott also expressed his beliefs in the development of Vietnam’s economy and hoped that the ANZ could continue to contribute further to the development of the banking industry in particular and the development of Vietnam in general in the future.
