According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in August 2020 increased by 0.07% against that of July 2020; down by 0.12% as compared to December 2019. The average CPI of the 8 months of 2020 increased by 3.96% in comparison with that of the same period of 2019.
Specifically, the prices of six out of eleven groups of commodities increased as compared to the previous month. In which, the price index of the group of other commodities and services registered the highest increase of 0.2%, followed by the group of education, which went up by 0.18%. The group of food and catering services was up by 0.11%. Both price indices of the group of traffic and the group of housing and construction materials registered an increase of 0.1%. The group of beverage and cigarette increased by 0.05%.
The groups of commodities and services with lower price indices are: the group of culture, entertainment and tourism was down by 0.2%; the group of footwear and hat decreased by 0.03%; the group of postal services & telecommunication went down by 0.05%. An exception was the price index of the group of household appliances and goods, which remained unchanged.
The core inflation decreased by 0.01% in August 2020 as compared to that of the previous month, and increased by 2.16% over the same time of 2019. The average core inflation of the 8 months of 2020 was up by 2.66% as compared to that of the same period of 2019.
