On January 14, 2021, in Hanoi, First Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Mr. SHIMIZU Akira, Chief Representative of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Vietnam Office.

Also attending the meeting were representatives from the International Cooperation Department, the Issue and Vault Department, SBV Office, the National Banknote Printing Plant and officers from JICA Vietnam Office.
At the meeting, First Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu congratulated Mr. SHIMIZU Akira on his new appointment as Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam Office and wished him a successful term in Vietnam.
He expressed his sincere thanks to the Government of Japan for having supported Vietnam in the socio-economic development process. The Deputy Governor also expressed his pleasure at the fast-growing cooperative relations in politics, economy, trade, investment and culture exchange between Vietnam and Japan.

Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu affirmed that the JICA-funded technical assistance projects had contributed to improve the SBV's capacity in the key areas as a central bank, such as monetary policies, statistics and forecast, banking inspection and supervision, issue and vault, etc. The remarkable results of the cooperation between the two sides in the period of 2014-2019 were the successes of the technical assistance projects “Modernizing the issuing and vault activities” (2008-2010); “Strengthening the capacity for the SBV in producing money printing ink” (2014-2017) and “Strengthening the capacity of the SBV in implementing the monetary policy, statistical analysis and forecast” (2017-2019).
The SBV Deputy Governor expressed his beliefs that, in his new position, Mr. SHIMIZU Akira would continue to support the SBV in the implementation of the technical assistance and new projects in the areas of cash management and money printing; further strengthen and effectively implement the extensive strategic partnership between the two countries, as well as share Japanese experience with the SBV.

For his part, Mr. SHIMIZU Akira, Chief Representative of JICA Vietnam Office thanked the SBV Deputy Governor for his time and warm hospitality. He expressed his pleasure at the long-time and sustainable relationship between Vietnam and Japan in general and between JICA and the SBV in particular. In responding to the SBV’s proposals, Mr. SHIMIZU Akira said that he would convey them to the relevant divisions to study and come up with recommendations for implementing and promoting the bilateral cooperation in order to bring about the highest positive impacts.
