From March 12 to 13, a Delegation from the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) headed by Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha attended the regular Governors’ Meetings of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS). The Delegation also had sideline meetings with members of the Board of Directors of the BIS.

Within the framework of the Meeting of the BIS Asian Consultative Council (ACC) on March 12, 2023, the Governors’ discussions focused on the potential challenges to the financial stability in the context of financial tightening in Asia and the Pacific.
On the following day, Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha attended the Global Economy Meeting (GEM) and the All Governors’ Meeting of the BIS to discuss about the issues related to the monetary policy tightening and the global value chains.

Also within the framework of the working visit, Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha had meetings with Mr. Agustín Carstens, BIS General Manager; leaders of the BIS Banking Department, the BIS Monetary and Economic Department; and the BIS Chief Representative for Asia and the Pacific.
At the meetings, Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha shared about Vietnam’s currently economic situations and expressed high evaluation for the effective cooperation with the BIS in the field of banking services, thereby providing the meaningful support for the SBV’s management operations. The SBV Deputy Governor affirmed that the SBV has engaged more intensively in various activities of the BIS, ever since the official admission of the SBV in early 2020.
The SBV Deputy Governor also acknowledged and expressed appreciation for the BIS’s researches and policy analyses on the matters attracting a lot of attention in the fields of finance and banking operations, such as the management of the monetary policy, the foreign exchange reserves, the payment systems, the digitization, the innovations and sustainable finance, etc. Furthermore, the exchanges and in-depth discussions at the BIS forums have provided the SBV with useful experience and suggestions for the policy-making, as well as for improving the legal and management frameworks.
In order to help the SBV in the implementation of the key tasks in 2023 and the following years, the SBV Deputy Governor proposed that the BIS continue to share more experience, together with the relevant research documents, as well as to facilitate the participation of the SBV staff in the workshops, training courses and other capacity building activities of the BIS.
SBV Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha also invited the General Manager and other members of the BIS Board of Directors to visit Vietnam to attend an event co-organized by the SBV and the BIS in the near future.
