According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in October 2024 increased by 0.33% against that of September 2024, and up by 2.52% as compared to that of December 2023, and up by 2.89% in comparison with that of the same period last year. For ten months of 2024, the average CPI rose by 3.78% over the same time period of 2023; the average core inflation was up by 2.69%.
Out of eleven groups of commodities, the price indices of ten groups of commodities increased and the price index of one group of commodities decreased.
Among the ten groups that increased, the price index of the group of food and catering services rose by 0.55%, contributing 0.18 percentage points to the CPI increase; the group of beverages and cigarettes increased by 0.11% due to the rising labor costs and the higher exchange rate; the group of footwear and hats was up by 0.09% due to a rise in the shopping demand at the season change.
The price index of the group of housing and construction materials increased by 0.11% due to different reasons, such as an increase of 1.17% in the gas price, an increase of 0.73% in the accommodation rental price, and an increase of 0.24% in water utility charge…
The price index of the group of household appliances and goods rose by 0.2%; the group of medicines and healthcare services rose by 0.02% due to the weather variations at the season change.
The price index of the group of traffic was up by 0.66%, contributing 0.06 percentage points to the CPI increase. The group of education increased by 0.48%. The group of other commodities and services was up by 0.26%.
On the opposite side, the group of postal services & telecommunication went down by 0.05%.
