On May 27, 2025, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Ngoc Canh had a meeting with Mr. Craig Murphy, Director of Constituency Group 7 at the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).

Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Ngoc Canh congratulated Mr. Craig Murphy on a successful first year as Director of the AIIB Constituency Group 7, marked by significant achievements. Deputy Governor Nguyen Ngoc Canh also shared with the guests that Vietnam is entering a new development phase with strong demands for investment in green infrastructure, digital transformation and climate change adaptation. Vietnam hopes that the AIIB will become an important partner in this journey, especially in developing and implementing highly connected and sustainable infrastructure projects, contributing to improving the competitiveness of Vietnam's economy in the region.
Deputy Governor Canh also asked Mr. Murphy to convey Vietnam's expectations to the AIIB's Board of Directors, including: in the new development period, the AIIB would become a new generation, modern, pioneering, responsive and efficient international financial institution; the AIIB would continue to provide appropriate support to the developing countries, including Vietnam, in the context of increasing burdens from public debts and the climate change impacts; and the AIIB would increase its lending through the Vietnamese commercial banking system to improve the efficiency and capacity of the banks, in accordance with the context of Vietnam.

Mr. Craig Murphy spoke highly of the SBV’s positive contributions in the common activities of Constituency Group 7 and the AIIB as a whole. He also took note of the Deputy Governor's proposal on financing through the Vietnamese commercial banking system to improve their capacity and also their lending and monitoring efficiency. In addition, Mr. Murphy also supported the SBV’s idea that the AIIB should expand its forms of support to the member countries, including developing training programs, sharing knowledge, etc.
In the coming time, Mr. Murphy pledged to continue to protect the interests and the voice of the Group’s members and further promote the AIIB’s support to the developing countries in Asia.
Toward the end of the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Ngoc Canh presented a souvenir to and wished Mr. Craig Murphy a successful and effective working trip in Vietnam.
