For celebrating 20 years of collaboration and cooperation with the financial services community in Vietnam, the SWIFT held a “Business Forum Vietnam 2015” in Hanoi on July 21.

The Forum was attended by the SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Toan Thang, Mr. Alain Raes Chief Executive, Asia Pacific and EMEA, representatives from the SBV entities, credit institutions, corporates, international and domestic experts.
In his keynote speech, Deputy Governor Nguyen Toan Thang highly appreciated the role and impressive development of the SWIFT in Vietnam as well as its contribution in the cause of Vietnam development in general and payment system of banking system in particular. The cooperation between the SBV and SWIFT is of great importance and helpful in extending the relationship between the system of credit institutions of Vietnam and the banks worldwide, in the formulation of the standards and building up infrastructure for payment system, contributing to reducing cost and attracting more investment for Vietnam. The Deputy Governor expressed his hope that the SWIFT would continue to support and further its cooperation with the SBV and the system of credit institutions in order to accelerate the adoption of ISO 20022, developing the international payment system in foreign currencies and exchanging international experience of payment operations.
SWIFT started its business in Vietnam in 1995 with the first 6 participants including the SBV. To present, SWIFT in Vietnam includes 84 members. In 2014, VietSWIFT had processed 10 million massages, increased by 14% as compared to 2013, of which the settlement massages accounted 74%, increased by 13%; foreign exchange massages accounted 9.64%, increased by 17%; and massages for security payment accounted 4%, increased by 23%.

Mr. Alain Raes, Chief Executive, Asia Pacific and EMEA said that the potential for payment service development in Vietnam is really huge. Especially, in anticipation of the establishment of the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC), Vietnam has ambitious plan on raising its competitiveness by improving capacity, bolstering economic positioning, upgrading infrastructure, and facilitating trade liberation, which are all key to providing Vietnam with a stable foundation for its financial services.
