Governor Nguyen Van Binh of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with President Jim Yong Kim of the World Bank Group in Hanoi on February 23.
At the meeting, SBV Governor Nguyen Van Binh highly appreciated the close cooperative relation between Vietnamese Government and the WB in general and between the SBV and the World Bank in particular. He said that World Bank’s support for both financial resource and technical assistance helped Vietnam successfully implemented socio-economic objectives over the past time. He also expressed his belief that, in the coming time, the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and World Bank will be promoted and further enhanced in both policy, financial and development consultancy and technical assistance in order to help Vietnam develop sustainably.
On the occasion of official launch of the Vietnam 2035 Report, SBV Governor Nguyen Van Binh spoke highly of the strict direction of the World Bank Group President in formulating the Vietnam 2035 Report with the aim of providing long –term development orientation for Vietnam from now to 2035. The attendance of World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim to the launching ceremony of the Vietnam 2035 Report reflected his special interest in Vietnam socio-economic development.
Moreover, the SBV Governor said that the participation in free trade agreements, especially TPP and Vietnam-EU will give many opportunities and challenges to Vietnam. Therefore, he stated that Vietnam hoped that the World Bank continued to support for Vietnam to get benefits from those agreements for sustainable socio-economic development. Besides, he expressed his hope for support from the WB to cope with climate changes.
For his part, World Bank Group President Jim Yong Kim highly appreciated the effectiveness of measures that Vietnam and the SBV conducted in the implementation of the objectives of curbing inflation, stabilizing macro-economy, ensuring social protection and supporting economic growth. At the same time, he congratulated SBV Governor Nguyen Van Binh on being elected the member of Political Bureau. He asserted that WB will be always an accompanying fellow of Vietnam and support Vietnam for implementing directives and orientations set by the 12th National Party Congress as well as Vietnam 2035 Report.
In addition, World Bank Group President exchanged with SBV Governor about issues related to preferential loans from IDA. He committed to continue coordinating with community of international donors in order to ensure the transfer of loans from IDA to IBRD smoothly, conveniently and in line with situations in Vietnam.
