Vietnam’s CPI increases by 0.61 percent in June, 2018

According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.61% in June, 2018 against May, 2018, and increased by 2.22% as compared to that of December, 2017, and registered a YoY increase of 3.29%.

Specifically, the prices of ten out of eleven groups of commodities increased as compared to the previous month.

The price index of the group of food and catering services registered the highest increase of 1.08% (mainly due to an increase of 1.75% in the prices of food while the prices of foodstuff decreased by 0.45%); followed by the price of the group of traffic, which increased by 1.04% due to the oil price’s rise by 2.38%; the group of housing and construction materials went up by 0.65%; the group of the culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 0.13%; the education group increased by 0.11% (the educational services rose by 0.15%); the beverage and cigarette group went up by 0.09%; the garment, footwear and hat group increased by 0.06%; the group of household appliances and goods, and the group of medicine and healthcare increased by 0.03%; and the group of other commodities and services was up by 0.02%.

The core inflation in June, 2018 increased by 0.1% as compared to that of the previous month, and increased by 1.37% over the same period of 2017. The average core inflation in the first six months of 2018 was up by 1.35% as compared to that of the same period of 2017.

The gold price was down by 0.79% as compared to the previous month; the USD appreciated by 0.2% against May, 2018, by 0.46% in comparison with December, 2017 and by 0.52% as compared to that of the same period of 2017.
