SBV Deputy Governor meets Senior Vice President of Visa Inc.

On September 13th, 2018, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh had a working session with the delegation of Visa Inc. led by Mr. Demetrios Marantis - Senior Vice President for Global Government Relations.

Also attending the meeting were representatives of the SBV entities: the International Cooperation Department, the Payment Department and the Department of Legal Affairs. On the Visa side, there were Mrs. Do Nhu Quynh - Director of Government Relations and Public Policy for Regional Southeast Asia and other associates at Visa Inc.

On behalf of the SBV Board of Management, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh welcomed the delegation of Visa led by Mr. Demetrios Marantis to visit and work in Vietnam. At the same time, SBV Deputy Governor expressed his confidence in the visit of Mr. Demetrios Marantis will contribute to further develop the comprehensive cooperation between the SBV, as well as credit institutions in Vietnam, with Visa, contributing to promoting e-payment activities in accordance with the policy of the Government of Vietnam.

At the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh and Senior Vice President Demetrios Marantis exchanged and discussed a number of issues related to the development of electronic payment, as well as sharing information about the results, implementation plans between the two parties.

Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh congratulated Visa on having successfully organized the "Visa's Everywhere Initiative"; also hoped that this will become an annual event giving start-up businesses the opportunity to research, develop and create new breakthroughs in the field of payment and trade.

Mr. Demetrios Marantis - Senior Vice President for Global Visa Relations thanked the supports and cooperation of the SBV for Visa in Vietnam over the past time. At the same time, he informed the SBV of the progress in cooperation between Visa and National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) implementing Circular No. 19/2016 / TT-NHNN dated June 30th, 2016 on banking card activity. Senior Vice President Demetrios Marantis also shared more information on Visa's plan to work with the authorities in several provinces (such as Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang) to develop smart cities and some other contents.

Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh appreciated Visa's contribution, sharing of experiences and cooperation with the SBV, as well as card issuing and payment banks; card-switching organizations in Vietnam. At the same time, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh informed Visa on the SBV's implementation of the legal document development process to extend the validity of the provisions of Paragraph 2 Article 24 of the Circular No. 19/2016/TT-NHNN dated June 30th, 2016 on bank card activity (until January 1st, 2020).

SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh wished Mr. Demetrios Marantis and his associates will achieve good results during this visit in Vietnam.
