On February 15, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha had a meeting with the delegation of the EU-ASEAN Business Council (EU-ABC) and the European Chamber of Commerce in Vietnam (EuroCham Vietnam).

Also attending the meeting, on the EU-ABC side, there was Mr. Alain Cany, Chairman of EuroCham Vietnam; Mr. Jens Ruebbert, Vice Chairman the EU-ABC, Managing Director and Regional Head for Asia/Pacific at Landesbank Baden-Wuerttemberg; together with other staff of the EU-ABC and representatives of some member companies in Vietnam, such as the Asia Group Advisors, Michelin, Robert Bosch (Southeast Asia), Standard Chartered Bank, Temasek, Vriens & Partners. On the SBV’s side, there were representatives from the SBV entities.
At the meeting, the two sides discussed the priorities of the SBV in 2023 and how the European companies could support the implementation of those priorities; provided some update on the monetary policy, the banking operations and payment activities in Vietnam; talked about the cooperation between the European companies and the SBV and the commercial banks.
Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha also shared about a number of the SBV’s priorities in the field of banking operations in 2023, including the management of the monetary policy and the use of appropriate instruments in a flexible and consistent manner in order to control the inflation, contribute to maintaining the macro-economic stability, the stability of the money and forex markets, and controlling the credit growth within the target; the enhancement of the inspection and supervision, the improvement of the efficiency of the macro and micro safety supervision; the strengthening of the capabilities and management performance of the credit institutions; the improvement of the organizational structures of the banking supervision agencies in the entire system; the promotion of non-cash payment, and the implementation of measures to strengthen the digital transformation

Following that, the representatives from the SBV entities provided further explanations for the questions of interest of the EU-ABC side, such as the priorities for enhancing the digitalization process; the roadmap of restructuring poor-performing banks and the NPL resolution; the monetary and forex management, etc.
Toward the end of the meeting, Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha asserted that the SBV is always committed to supporting the EU-ABC member companies to invest and do business in Vietnam. Mr. Pham Thanh Ha further requested that the EU-ABC member companies enhance their investment in Vietnam, and support the SBV in the implementation of the two important priorities of digital transformation and green transformation.
