On May 31, 2022, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), SBV Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha welcomed and had a meeting with Mr. Takahiro Yasui, Executive Director, and Mr. John Hurley, Alternate Executive Director of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) during theirs working mission to Vietnam.
At the meeting, SBV Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha shared about Vietnam's macroeconomic performance in the first 5 months of 2022, emphasizing that the economic growth was higher than the same period of the previous year. Vietnam has also been successful in managing the domestic consumer price index. It is expected that Vietnam's economy will recover its growth in 2022 after the full re-opening of the economy and thanks to the stimulus effects from the Socio-Economic Recovery Program for the 2022 - 2023 period, and the robust implementation of the trade agreements. SBV Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha highly appreciated the ADB's support and assistance for Vietnam's socio-economic development over the past years, and expressed his hopes that the ADB would continue to accompany the Government of Vietnam in the post-COVID economic recovery.

In addition, SBV Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha also thanked the ADB, based on the proposal by the Government of Vietnam, for having finalized the Country Partnership Strategy for Vietnam for the 2023 - 2026 period, with the goals of assisting Vietnam in the promotion of inclusive, green and private sector-led growth, and in the development of a foundation to achieve the target of becoming an upper middle-income country by 2030.

Sharing with Deputy Governor Pham Thanh Ha, Mr. Takahiro Yasui and Mr. John Hurley both congratulated the SBV on the positive results of the economic development in Vietnam over the past years, and applauded Vietnam's effective responses to the COVID-19 pandemic, especially the early re-opening of the economy, which has brought about a strong confidence among foreign investors. Mr. Takahiro Yasui and Mr. John Hurley also made high evaluation for the monetary policy management by the SBV over the recent years, which has contributed significantly to Vietnam's economic growth. Moreover, the two Executive Directors also expressed their great pleasure with the results achieved in the ADB - Vietnam cooperative relationship, and the fact that the ADB's resources had contributed to helping the Government of Vietnam to combat the negative impacts caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The ADB Executive Directors also wished that the ADB could continue to be a reliable and long-term partner of Vietnam.
