On May 13, 2022, on the side of the ASEAN-U.S. Special Summit (May 12-13, 2022) in Washington, D.C., Governor Nguyen Thi Hong of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) attended the meeting between Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh with Mr. Antony Blinken, U.S. Secretary of State.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh expressed his sincere thanks for the US’s vaccine and medical equipment aids to help Vietnam to respond effectively to the COVID-19 pandemic through the bilateral channel as well as through the COVAX mechanism, at the time when Vietnam was facing the most difficulties in response to the pandemic; thereby having contributed significantly to helping Vietnam to basically control the pandemic. The Prime Minister wished to continue the cooperation with and receive further support from the US in the coming time, especially in the process of strengthening and improving the heathcare capabilities, climate change adaptation and mitigation, and enhancing the supply chain resilience.
The two sides expressed their recognition of the prospering Vietnam-US relations. The Prime Minister acknowledged that the US has become one of Vietnam's most important trade and investment partners and spoke highly of the US’s policy on supporting Vietnam’s independence and prosperity. The Prime Minister expressed his wishes that the two sides would continue to develop the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries based on the principles of mutual respect of each other’s political regime, independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, for global and regional peace, cooperation and development, bringing about practical benefits to the people in the two countries.
Secretary Blinken reaffirmed that the US supports Vietnam to become a strong, independent and prosperous country. He also expressed his agreement with the Prime Minister’s assessment on the positive and potential progress of the Vietnam-US relations. The Secretary also congratulated Vietnam on its achievements in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic, and hoped that Vietnam would continue to proactively join the international efforts in confronting the pandemic. About the cooperation on climate change adaptation and mitigation, Secretary Blinken applauded Vietnam’s commitments made at COP26 and affirmed that the US would support Vietnam to implement these commitments.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh affirmed that the US has become one of Vietnam's most important trade and investment partners. The Prime Minister hoped the two sides would continue to strengthen the Comprehensive Partnership between the two countries, thereby contributing actively to the world and regional peace, stability, cooperation and development.
The Prime Minister hoped that the US would continue to support Vietnam to improve the healthcare capabilities, especially in preventive medicine and grassroots healthcare services, as well as in the areas of technological renovation, digital transformation, supply chain diversification, climate change adaptation and mitigation, etc.
The two sides also emphasized the importance of ensuring peace, freedom, security, maritime and aviation safety and security in the South China Sea, the resolution of disputes through peaceful means based on the international laws, especially UNCLOS 1982, contributing to maintaining the global and regional peace, stability, cooperation and development.
