On November 17, 2022, in Bangkok, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Deputy Governor Ronaldo Numnonda of the Bank of Thailand (BoT) on the occasion of the launching ceremony of the payment linkage using quick response code (QR code) between Vietnam and Thailand.
At the meeting, the BoT Deputy Governor welcomed Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh to Bangkok to attend the launching ceremony of the cross-border payment linkage using quick response code (QR code) between Vietnam and Thailand under the witness of Vietnam’s State President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Thailand’s Minister of Finance Arkhom Termpittayapaisith.
According to Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh, the launching ceremony was an outcome of the close and effective cooperation between the two authorities and the two banking sectors, despite the difficulties caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, in order to realize the commitments of the leaders of the two central banks in 2019. The SBV Deputy Governor hoped that this payment service would be popular among the people in both countries for its convenience and safety, and would grow steadily in the transaction numbers in the future.
Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh shared that, for Vietnam this is the first agreement of cross-border payment linkage using QR code; therefore, the experience in implementing this project with the BoT would bring about much precious experience for Vietnam to further expand cooperation with other ASEAN countries. The SBV Deputy Governor expressed his beliefs that the success of this cooperation would also be a motivation for the future cooperative activities of the two central banks.
Agreeing with the views of the SBV Deputy Governor, BoT Deputy Governor Ronaldo said that, in the context of complicated developments of the world economy, the enhancement of regional cooperation is necessary. He emphasized that the BoT is always willing to cooperate with the SBV in various fields such as monetary policies, banking inspection and supervision, etc. in order to strengthen the strategic partnership between the two countries.
