On October 16, 2024, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Governor Nguyen Thi Hong had a meeting with Mr. Thomas Gass, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Swiss Confederation to Vietnam.

Discussing about the cooperative relations between the two countries, Governor Nguyen Thi Hong and Ambassador Thomas Gass both acknowledged the strongly developing partnership between Vietnam and Switzerland across various sectors, including the monetary and banking areas. In the recent years, the Swiss Government has provided significant technical support and training programs for Vietnam. Notably, the project on training banking management personnel, in partnership with the Swiss Finance Institute (SFI) since its inception in 2009, has achieved a lot of positive outcomes.
According to the SBV Governor, as the regulatory authority in the monetary and banking areas, the SBV has been gradually improving the policies and the legal frameworks to be aligned with the growth objectives; facilitating the credit institutions’ access to technical support and opportunities for healthy development. The SBV Governor expressed her hope that Switzerland would continue to share its practical experience with and support Vietnam’s banking sector, particularly in the areas of governance, technological applications, and the maintenance of the safe and stable operations of the system, in order to prevent financial risks.
Ambassador Thomas Gass stated that the Swiss Government, along with the Swiss National Bank, are always willing to support the Vietnamese Government and the SBV in the areas of human resource development and the technological improvements. Additionally, the Swiss Embassy in Vietnam would continue to serve as an important bridge to promote the relevant exchanges between the two countries, with a view to creating an official cooperation mechanism between the SBV and the Swiss National Bank.

Towards the end of the meeting, Governor Nguyen Thi Hong once again commended the good and friendly relations between Vietnam and Switzerland. The SBV Governor also expressed her hope that the Swiss Government and Swiss businesses would continue to make investments in Vietnam, as well as collaborate with the Vietnamese companies to enhance the sharing and reinforce the bilateral cooperation between the two countries.
