SBV joins MPS in ensuring monetary security and safe banking operations

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Nguyen Thi Hong mentioned that, throughout the past years, the banking sector in general and the SBV in particular have always received great attention and close coordination from the leaders and the entities of the Ministry of Public Security (MPS). The information shared by MPS has been a critical data source, assisting the policy formulation of the SBV, and ensuring the smooth, healthy, safe and effective banking operations.

Especially, during the implementation of the Scheme on developing applications of the population, the personal identification and the electronic authentication data in support of the National Digital Transformation in the 2022-2025 period, Vision to 2030 (Scheme 06), the MPS and the SBV had signed the Coordination Regulations on accelerating the implementation of the Scheme. Through the implementation of the Coordination Regulations for the implementation of Scheme 06, the banking sector has been able to verify the customers opening bank accounts and using banking services, enhancing the security and accelerating the digital transformation within the banking system.

According to the Governor, the banking sector has achieved a lot of operational achievements, with significant breakthroughs in the digital transformation. However, there remain numerous challenges and risks to the security and safety of the system, and threats from cybercrimes and illegal cross-border transactions. Therefore, the signing of the Coordination Regulations this time with the MPS was an important action, creating a strong basis for the two agencies to further strengthen the cooperation in ensuring the security and safety of the national monetary, banking and financial sectors.

The SBV Governor also mentioned that the SBV entities would be requested to proactively and effectively implement the work items, and to closely engage with the entities under the MPS to implement effectively the Coordination Regulations.

In his speech at the ceremony, General Luong Tam Quang, Minister of Public Security, commended the close and successful coordination between the two agencies over the past time, having accomplished the tasks assigned by the Party and the Government. Some notable ones include the monetary policy management for the socio-economic development, which is linked with ensuring the national defence and security; enhancing the close coordination in operations, programmes and projects; the collaboration in the development and appraisal of laws and regulations; and the protection of the internal political security, the economic security, and the monetary security; as well as the fight against crimes and the prevention of law violations. In particular, General Luong Tam Quang highlighted that the coordination between the two sides in the implementation of Scheme 06 has been a bright spot for the banking sector, contributing to the national digital transformation.

General Luong Tam Quang emphasised that, in the coming time, the functional entities of both agencies need to consider the coordination to be a regular and long-term task, and strengthen the exchanges, information sharing, and the provision of mutual support to ensure a safe, secure and prudent banking system. In addition, the two sides should work together to improve the effectiveness in the combat against high-tech crimes; promoting the good models of cooperation between the banks and the local police, and continuing to implement effectively the tasks assigned to the two agencies as stated in Scheme 06.
