Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Mr. Karl Ehlers, Acting Assistant U.S Trade Representative, in Hanoi on October 31. Attending the meeting were representatives from International Cooperation Department and Payment Department.
The meeting
At the meeting, SBV Deputy Governor acknowledged the contributions of U.S. card issuers operating in Vietnam to the provision of electronic payment services in Vietnam. As being a management unit, the SBV always listened to and recorded reviews from companies and investors in order to facilitate those companies to effectively operate in Vietnam.
For his part, Acting Assistant U.S Trade Representative Karl Ehlers expressed his sincere thanks for warm hospitality of the SBV and emphasized that the objective of upcoming visit of U.S President Donald Trump to Vietnam is to enhance the trade relation among Vietnamese and U.S enterprises, thereby strengthening cooperative relation between the two nations.

Moreover, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh and Mr. Karl Ehlers exchanged their views on issues related to electronic payment in general and card payment in particular, orientation towards the objective of developing non-cash payment as well as other relevant objectives such as anti-money laundering, forex management, financial security and etc.

SBV Deputy Governor asserted the SBV would accelerate the implementation of measures to enhance non-cash payment in Vietnam for obtaining the objectives set in Plan of developing non-cash payment in Vietnam for 2016-2020 period approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 2545/QĐ-TTg dated December 30, 2016. At the same time, he hoped that Mr. Karl Ehlers would continue supporting the enhancement of cooperation in the coming time.
