According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.96% in November 2019 against that of October 2019; the average level for 11 months rose by 2.57% in comparison with that of the same time last year, which was the lowest level for the recent three years.
Specifically, the prices of nine out of eleven groups of commodities increased as compared to the previous month. The price index of the group of food and catering services registered the highest increase of 2.74% (of which the food prices rose by 0.26% and the foodstuff prices increased by 4.11%); the group of beverage and cigarette went up by 0.2%; the group of housing and construction materials rose by 0.13%; the group of footwear and hat increased by 0.12%; the group of household appliances and goods was up by 0.1%; the group of medicine and healthcare and the group of education both increased by 0.04%; the group of culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 0.03%; the group of other commodities and services went up by 0.16%.
The price index of the group of traffic and the group of postal services & telecommunication was down by 0.73% and 0.09% respectively.
The core inflation increased by 0.3% in November 2019 as compared to that of the previous month, and increased by 2.18% over the same time of 2018. The average core inflation for eleven months of 2019 was up by 1.94% as compared to that of the same period of 2018.
Not included in the commodities and services accounted for in the CPI, the domestic gold price index in November 2019 was down by 0.63% as compared to that of October 2019, and increased by 11.65% in comparison with that of December 2018 and by 17.12% over the same period of 2018; while the USD in November 2019 depreciated by 0.13% against the VND as compared to its value in the previous month, down by 0.58% as compared to that of December 2018 and by 0.66% over the same period of 2018.
