Governor Nguyen Van Binh of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Mr. Joachim von Amsberg, World Bank (WB) Vice President of Development Finance, in Hanoi on June 3.
At the meeting, Governor Nguyen Van Binh warmly welcomed WB Vice President Joachim von Amsberg to Vietnam, and expressed his belief that the working visit of the WB Vice President would contribute to strengthening the comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and the WB. The SBV Governor asserted that over the past time, the WB has played an important role in supporting developing countries for poverty reduction and sustainable growth. Thanks to WB’s support, Vietnam has obtained encouraging achievements in transferring from low – income country to medium – income country. He said that all the programs and projects funded by the WB have significantly contributed to socio – economic development and international integration in Vietnam. He stated that the Vietnamese Government in general and the SBV in particular highly appreciated the effectiveness of the programs, projects and policy consultancy in Vietnam from the WB. Moreover, the SBV Governor expressed his hope that WB would continue strengthening and diversifying the forms of assistance, supporting programs and projects for Vietnam in general and the SBV in particular.
For his part, Mr. Joachim von Amsberg spoke highly of the achievements Vietnam has obtained in the process of developing socio-economy, especially the objective of poverty reduction. He also commended the effectiveness of policies Vietnamese Government and the SBV have conducted in the implementation of objectives of curbing inflation, stabilizing macro-economy and ensuring protection. He committed that WB will always accompany with Vietnam in the development process; support Vietnam to implement the objectives of sustainable development, poverty reduction and climate change response; enhance policy consultancy; and share experience in the development process to help Vietnam avoid medium income traps.
