According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in March 2023 decreased by 0.23% against that of February 2023, up by 0.74% as compared to that of December 2022 and up by 3.35% in comparison with that of the same period last year.
Out of eleven groups of commodities, the prices of five groups of commodities increased and the prices of six groups of commodities decreased.
Among the five groups that increased, the price of the group of housing and construction materials increased by 0.36%; the group of other commodities and services was up by 0.21%; the group of household appliances and goods rose by 0.14%; the group of culture, entertainment and tourism was up by 0.13% as compared to the prices of February 2023.
Among the six groups that went down, the price of the group of education decreased by 1.71%; the group of food and catering services declined by 0.58%; the group of traffic was down by 0.16%; the group of beverage and cigarette decreased by 0.05%; the group of footwear and hat was down by 0.02%; the group of postal services & telecommunication went down by 0.05%.
The core inflation increased by 0.22% in March 2023 as compared with that of the previous month, and increased by 4.88% over the same time of 2022. In the first quarter of 2023, the average core inflation was up by 5.01% as compared with that of the same period of 2022.
