According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in March 2021 decreased by 0.27% against that of February 2021; and up by 1.31% as compared with that of December 2020.
Specifically, the prices of seven out of eleven groups of commodities decreased as compared to the previous month, while only four groups of commodities experienced increases in prices.
In which, the price index of the group of food and catering services made the biggest drop of 1.46% as compared to February 2021; the group of beverage and cigarette went down by 0.37%; the group of footwear and hat decreased by 0.2%; the group of postal services & telecommunication was down by 0.13%; the price index of the group of household appliances and goods was down by 0.05%; the group of culture, entertainment and tourism decreased by 0.03%; the price index of the group of other commodities and services went down by 0.28%.
Among the four commodity groups with prices increased, the price index of the group of traffic registered the highest increase of 2.29%; next is the price index of the group of housing and construction materials with 0.24% increase; the group of medicine and healthcare and the group of education were up by 0.02% and 0.01%, respectively.
The core inflation increased by 0.12% in March 2021 as compared with that of the previous month, and increased by 0.73% over the same time of 2020. The average core inflation for the first quarter of 2021 was up by 0.67% as compared with that of the same period of 2020.
