According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) in January 2021 increased by 0.06% against that of December 2020; down by 0.97% as compared with that of the same period of 2019.

Specifically, the prices of nine out of eleven groups of commodities increased, in which the group of traffic registered the highest increase of 2.29%; the group of food and catering services rose by 0.64%; the group of footwear and hat increased by 0.44%; the group of education rose by 0.33%; the group of beverage and cigarette increased by 0.32%; the group of other commodities and services rose by 0.24%; the group of household appliances and goods increased by 0.08%; the group of medicine and healthcare was up by 0.01%.
The price indices of the two remaining groups decreased: the price index of the group of housing and construction materials went down by 2.31%, and the group of postal services & telecommunication decreased by 0.1%.
Also according to the GSO data, the core inflation increased by 0.27% in January 2021 as compared with that of the previous month, and increased by 0.49% over the same time of 2020.
