According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) decreased by 0.09% in June, 2019 against May, 2019, and increased by 1.41% as compared to that of December, 2018, and registered a YoY increase of 2.16%.

Specifically, the prices of eight out of eleven groups of commodities increased as compared to the previous month. The price index of the group of beverage and cigarette went up by 0.33%; the education group increased by 0.23% (the educational services rose by 0.15%); the group of culture, entertainment and tourism increased by 0.2%; the group of household appliances and goods, and the group of garment, footwear and hat increased by 0.14%; the group of food and catering services rose by 0.12%; the group of medicine and healthcare increased by 0.05%; and the group of other commodities and services was up by 0.15%.
The price indices of the remaining groups decreased. Specifically, the price index of the group of traffic declined by 1.73%; the group of housing and construction materials went down by 0.2%; and the group of postal services & telecommunication decreased by 0.1%.
The core inflation in June, 2019 increased by 0.16% as compared to that of the previous month, and increased by 1.96% over the same period of 2018. The average core inflation in the first six months of 2019 was up by 1.87% as compared to that of the same period of 2018.
Not included in the commodities and services accounted for in the CPI, the domestic gold price index in June 2019 was up by 1.98% as compared to that of May 2019, and increased by 4.29% against December 2018. The USD in June 2019 appreciated by 0.3% against the VND as compared to its value in the previous month, and appreciated by 0.29% in comparison with that of December 2018.
