The General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO) has announced that the consumer price index (CPI) decreases by 0.07% in August against the previous month. The CPI increases by 0.83% against the same period last year and the (YoY) goes up by 0.61%.
According to the GSO this was the first time in ten years CPI declined in August as compared to the previous month. The price of the group of transportation saw the biggest decrease of 2.12%. The price of groups of housing and construction materials, telecom, and other services and commodities were down by 0.45%, 0.02% and 0.02% respectively.
Out of 11 groups of commodities, seven ones saw rising prices including education with a surge of 0.87%; followed by the group of garments, textiles, hats and footwear with the increase of 0.28%. The groups of household utensils; restaurants and food services; beverage and cigarette; culture, entertainment and tourism; medicines and medical services went up by 0.11%, 0.1%, 0.07%, 0.04% and 0.03% respectively.
The gold price was down by 3.92%; and VND depreciates by 0.31% against the US dollar.
