On June 9, 2025, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Deputy Governor Nguyen Ngoc Canh had a meeting with Mr. Wempi Saputra, Executive Director of the World Bank (WB) Office for the Southeast Asia (SEA) Group. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the International Cooperation Department and the SBV Office.

At the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Ngoc Canh thanked the WB for its practical and effective support over the past time, contributing to the socio-economic development process, improving the people's living conditions, and helping Vietnam head towards the goal of becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045.
The SBV Deputy Governor also shared briefly about Vietnam's economic situation and the Government's efforts in maintaining the macroeconomic stability, promoting the public investment, accelerating the institutional reforms and the digital transformation. In particular, the SBV has continued to operate the monetary policy in a proactive and flexible manner, in collaboration with the fiscal policy and other policies to control the inflation, maintain the stability of the exchange rates, contributing to promoting a sustainable economic growth.
On the WB’s side, Mr. Wempi Saputra expressed his impression with Vietnam’s achievements in the socio-economic development over the past years, and highly complimented the effective management of the Government of Vietnam, reflected through the strategic development policies, the strong leadership, a long-term vision and a strong commitment to reforms.
An overview of the meeting
Mr. Wempi Saputra also updated the hosts of some of the WB's recent activities. Accordingly, the WB has made commitment to mobilizing about 130 billion USD each year to support its member countries in implementing development programs and projects, with priority given to the areas like climate change response, energy transition, healthcare, education, production and human resource development. For Vietnam, the WB is committed to maintaining its support through programs on infrastructure development, renewable energy, energy transition, agriculture, and projects that have positive impacts on the environment and climate change mitigation.

Towards the end of the meeting, the two sides agreed that the SBV would continue to act as a bridge between the Government of Vietnam and the WB, supporting the Government in making the best use of the resources provided by the WB to help Vietnam achieve its goal of becoming a developed, high-income country by 2045.
Deputy Governor Canh also requested that the Executive Director of the WB Office continue to coordinate closely with the SBV, promote the information sharing and the timely assessment and analysis of the global and regional economic and financial situations, thereby promoting further his role as the representative of the voice and the interest of the member countries in the region.
