In the evening of April 16, 2022, in Hanoi, Deputy Governor Pham Tien Dzung of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) attended the Launching Ceremony of the 2nd Vietnam Bankcard Day (2022). The event was jointly organized by Tien Phong Newspaper and the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (NAPAS) under the content instructions of the SBV’s Payment Department and Communications Department.
In his opening speech, Deputy Governor Pham Tien Dzung said that, together with a series of other annual events occurring continually during the recent months, Vietnam Bankcard Day 2022 has successfully affirmed the meaningfulness and popularity (of bank cards) among the Vietnamese population, especially young people. This had been reflected through the strong support and participation of a lot of young people, commercial banks and businesses.
The SBV Deputy Governor further shared that in the recent years, the SBV has proactively reviewed and formulated favorable legal frameworks for the development and deployment of payment services based on advance technologies, contributing to the promotion of cashless payments. Appropriate and timely policies and regulations have helped facilitate commercial banks to make investment in infrastructure and develop digital banking products and services. Some specific achievements include: More than 2 million accounts have been opened via eKYC; electronic payment operations have increased significantly over the last five years, e.g.e.g., transactions via the mobile phone channel hashave been increasing at the rate of 50%-80% p.a.; the percentage of adults having payment accounts at commercial banks has reached 66%; the banking sector has effectively and fully met the people’s demand for e-payments in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Vietnam Bankcard Day 2022, with the participation of 20 commercial banks and financial institutions and over 100 businesses, was a good opportunity to introduce a variety of cashless payment services and facilities, thereby disseminating positive messages related to non-cash payment products and technologies to the youth and students, the future owners of the country and the whole society.

During this event, NAPAS, the commercial banks, financial institutions and businesses also set up display kiosks to introduce to the visitors and young people about the latest payment technologies to the visitors and young people. The visitors were able to try and experience new payment methods, such as payments using contactless chip cards, using VietQR code in commodity purchases, payment for bus tickets, etc..etc... In addition, the visitors could also learn about and participate in several games related to payment products and services at different kiosks. Thereby, the visitors could understand more about the benefits of the new payment methods, and thus would gradually change their habits and establish a new trend of cashless payment, helping to bring better values to the society, as well as contributing to the development of the digital economy.
