On October 6, 2022, in Hanoi, the National Payment Corporation of Vietnam (Napas), together with Viettel Digital and VNPT-Media, organized a Launching Ceremony of the money transfer service between Mobile Money accounts and bank payment accounts.
SBV Deputy Governor Pham Tien Dzung speaks at the Ceremony
In his opening speech at the Ceremony, Deputy Governor Pham Tien Dzung of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) congratulated on the success of Napas, Viettel, VNPT and the commercial banks in their cooperation in introducing the money transfer service between Mobile Money accounts and bank payment accounts, which will bring about practical benefits to the users.
The SBV Deputy Governor shared that Mobile Money had been implemented on a pilot scale for 11 months; as of August 2022, there were 2.2 million Mobile Money accounts, of which 68% of the users are living in the rural areas. This reflects that the Scheme on the pilot implementation of Mobile Money for the payment of small valued commodities and services, meeting the payment demands in the rural and remote areas had been going in the right direction and meeting the expected objectives.
There are currently over 14,000 payment acceptance units, of which over 50% are located in the rural areas, allowing users to deposit money into their Mobile Money accounts. After today, the new channel of transferring money from the bank payment accounts to Mobile Money accounts can help create a common ecosystem allowing users to receive money in cash, or via their bank payment accounts or mobile money accounts.
SBV Deputy Governor Pham Tien Dzung, Vice Minister Pham Duc Long of the Ministry of Information and Communications, leaders of Napas, VNPT and Viettel join the Launching Ceremony of the service
The SBV Deputy Governor also requested the mobile network operators to further allow their subscribers to use their Mobile Money accounts at more payment acceptance units, so that the users can pay for every type of commodities and services, similar to bank payment accounts. Moreover, apart from the being connected with the banks and Napas, Mobile Money should also be connected with the providers of essential commodities and services.
The SBV Deputy Governor further went on expressing his hope that the growth of Mobile Money would be accelerated, in order to bring about more practical benefits to the users, with the target of having more or less 10 million mobile subscribers using Mobile Money by end of next year.
