On November 22, 2023, in Hanoi, Vietnam Banks’ Association (VNBA) organized a Workshop on “Solutions to protect communication in cyberspace at the credit institutions”. Attending the Workshop, there was First Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV); Mr. Nguyen Thanh Lam, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Information and Communications; Mr. Nguyen Quoc Hung, Vice President and General Secretary of VNBA; and representatives of the Department of Broadcasting and Electronic Information, the Authority of Press, Hanoi Department of Information and Communications, representatives from the members of VNBA, etc.

Speaking at the Workshop, SBV First Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu highly complimented the practical objectives and the significance of the Workshop. The SBV Deputy Governor commented that dealing with information crises in the cyberspace is an extremely difficult task, especially in the current context of the strong and fast development of science and technology.
According to the SBV Deputy Governor, in order to make effective use of the social networks, the commercial banks must have good understanding and consider communication work as an important solution to ensure safe and sound banking operations, and promptly conduct communication activities for timely and effective responses.
With the information shared at the Workshop, Deputy Governor Dao Minh Tu hoped that the participants would have more multi-dimensional perspectives on the difficulties and pressures for the communication activities in the banking industry in the current context; and the need for actions to protect the communications in the cyberspace at the credit institutions.
An overview of the Workshop
In that spirit, the SBV Deputy Governor hoped that the participants in the Workshop would focus on exchanging and clarifying the benefits and the risks, as well as sharing good practices for the governance, the information processing, and the prevention of communication crises in the cyberspace. The SBV Deputy Governor also expressed his hope that the Workshop would come up with useful knowledge and information for the reference by the SBV entities and the credit institutions, thereby resulting in practical and effective solutions to protect the communications in the cyberspace in the coming time.

At the Workshop, the participants listened to the discussion points and sharing from Vietcombank about the management practices, the information processing, and the prevention of communication crises at its affiliated organizations; the experience in crisis prevention, information management on the social networks and recommendations by UB Group - a VNBA member; the supervision of communication activities on the digital platforms, the prevention of risks and the information processing in the cyberspace by experts from Farm Company as well as the Academy of Posts and Telecommunications, etc.
Sharing at the Workshop, Ms. Kim Lan Anh, Deputy Director General of the SBV Communication Department said that, over the past time, communication activities in the banking industry have contributed to ensuring safe and sound banking operations, helping to control the inflation and maintain the macro-economic stability, supporting the socio-economic development, ensuring the national monetary security, improving the public confidence in the banking system, and enhancing the SBV’s reputation in the management of the monetary policy and the banking operations.
According to Ms. Kim Lan Anh, monetary and banking information is sensitive and can spread very quickly, with a large scope of influence and possible global chain effects, and can easily cause crises due to the psychological impacts. Furthermore, information related to banking activities directly can have direct impacts on the people, businesses and all aspects of the socio-economic life. In the coming time, the SBV Communication Department would continue to strengthen the state management of communications activities in the banking industry, creating a consensus and consistency throughout the banking system, from the SBV to the SBV branches, and between the SBV and the credit institutions and entities in the entire sector.
