According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.1% in August against the previous month, and by 2.58% as compared to that of December 2015.
Specifically, out of eleven groups of commodities, the price of 6 groups increased as compared to the previous months. Among the groups of commodities registering their price increase, group of medicine and health services recorded the highest increase of 6.18%, followed by group of education services with 0.47%, group of textiles, hats and footwear, 0.14%; other commodities and services, 0.11%; groups of beverages and tobacco; and family equipment and appliances increased by 0.05%.
On the contrary, the price of five groups of commodities decreased, of which the price of the group of transportation services registered the highest decrease of 1.97% in comparison to the last month; the prices of restaurant and catering services decreased by 0.14%; while groups of culture, entertainment and tourism, postal services, housing and construction materials fell by 0.12%, 0.03% and 0.02% respectively.
Apart from this, the gold price was up by 1.72% while the USD depreciated by 0.05% against VND.
