On May 7, 2026, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Deputy Governor Nguyen Ngoc Canh held a meeting with Mr. Richard Wormald, President of Mastercard Asia/Pacific Pte. Ltd.

Overview of the meeting
At the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Ngoc Canh acknowledged and highly appreciated Mastercard’s positive contributions in accompanying with Vietnam in promoting cashless payments and enhancing financial inclusion in recent years.
For his part, Mr. Richard Wormald, President of Mastercard Asia/Pacific Pte. Ltd., affirmed that Mastercard would continue to strengthen cooperation and investment in Vietnam, especially with banks and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). He also emphasized Mastercard’s readiness to actively share international initiatives and experience, as well as provide solutions to ensure security and prevent fraudulent transactions, scams, and fake accounts in the electronic payment environment, thereby contributing to the development of cashless payments in Vietnam.

Sharing the SBV’s orientation for payment system development, Deputy Governor Nguyen Ngoc Canh stated that the SBV would continue implementing measures to promote digital transformation in the banking sector, develop the national digital payment infrastructure, and effectively implement the Strategy for the Development of Vietnam’s Banking Sector to 2025, with a vision toward 2030.
In conclusion, Deputy Governor Nguyen Ngoc Canh expressed his hope and confidence that Mastercard would continue to coordinate with and accompany banks, enterprises, card issuers, and card payment organizations, thereby contributing to the development of digital payment activities and the digital transformation of the banking sector, in compliance with relevant Vietnamese laws and regulations.
