Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Ms. Sandie Okoro, Senior Vice-President and General Counsel for the World Bank Group (WBG), in Hanoi on September 26.
Attending the meeting were Mr. Ousmane Dione, WB Country Director for Vietnam; Mr. Ferenc Molnar, Chief Counsel for East Asia, Pacific Islands and South Asia; representatives from International Cooperation Department and SBV Office.
At the meeting, Governor Le Minh Hung warmly welcomed the WBG delegation led by Ms. Sandie to Vietnam, and congratulated on her appointment as Senior Vice-President and General Counsel for the WBG. He expressed his belief that taking new position, Ms. Okoro Sandie would achieve more successes and contribute greatly to accomplishing the mission of the WBG.
Moreover, the SBV Governor sincerely thanked WB experts and the group of counsels for supporting the SBV in the process of restructuring the banking sector. He said, in the coming time, Vietnam would graduate from the IDA and change to borrow from the IBRD in line with market conditions, and its investment would focus on priority fields such as infrastructure, transport, energy and etc. He highly appreciated WB’s support for Vietnam in the formulation and completion of Country Partnership Framework (CPF) with Vietnam for 2018-2020 period in accordance with the objectives of Vietnam Socio-economic Development Plan for 2016-2020 period; and requested for further support from the WB in the process of developing socio-economy as outlined in the CPF.
He expressed his hope that WB would further support Vietnam through policies, mobilization of grants, provision of technical assistance and etc. In the coming time, Vietnamese Government and the SBV would continue strictly restructuring the banking sector for safe and sound banking operations in line with the international practices. Therefore, the SBV hoped the WB would continue to support the SBV and share its experience in NPL resolution.
For her part, Ms. Sandie Okoro congratulated on Vietnam’s economic achievements over the past time, with great contribution of the SBV to stabilizing exchange rate, curbing inflation at low level and maintaining the stability of the money market. Giving orientations to attract and utilize loans when Vietnam is eligible for borrowing from the IBRD, she committed that the WB would continue supporting Vietnam after its graduation from IDA to remain its position of a middle- income country.
