On March 19, 2023, in Hanoi, Governor Nguyen Thi Hong of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Mr. Junichi Hanzawa, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MUFG Bank.

At the meeting, Governor Nguyen Thi Hong welcomed Mr. Junichi Hanzawa and the mission of MUFG Bank (Japan), together with the representatives from MUFG Bank (Vietnam), to visit and work with the SBV.
The SBV Governor emphasized that the cooperative relationship between Vietnam and Japan has been growing stronger in various areas, in which the fields of banking and finance had made important contributions to promoting the development of the economic relationship between the two countries.
The SBV was pleased to see that the cooperative relationship between MUFG Bank and Vietnam Joint Stock Commercial Bank for Industry and Trade (VietinBank) has achieved positive results over the past 10 years. The SBV and MUFG Bank are both major shareholders of Vietinbank, and have joined hands in formulating the orientations, strategies and decisions to help Vietinbank operate in accordance with the principles and the goals of Vietinbank, the policies and the guidance of the Government, and the provisions of law.
In addition, the SBV always has high evaluation for the Japanese partners’ persistence, meticulousness, following the principles.
In the coming time, with complicated and unpredictable events of the global economy, the SBV Governor added that, the operations of banks in general and Vietinbank in particular need strong determination to implement the solutions to overcome the difficulties; follow the orientations of the SBV and the Government.
The Government and the SBV had issued many solutions to remove the difficulties for the economy, maintain the stability of the market, restructure the credit institutions, etc. Vietinbank needs to join the implementation of these solutions to remove the difficulties for the enterprises, the economy and the banks in the system, for the common goals and for the own benefit of Vietinbank.

Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Junichi Hanzawa, CEO of MUFG Bank, shared that, in 2023, Vietnam and Japan would celebrate the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the diplomatic ties. Also, MUFG Bank and Vietinbank would celebrate the 10th anniversary of the strategic partnership this year.
Mr. Junichi Hanzawa asserted that, Vietnam plays an important role in Japan's foreign policy. Vietnam's position has been increasing day by day, ranking first in the list of destinations that Japanese enterprises want to invest in.
He emphasized that, MUFG Bank would continue to strengthen and deepen the sustainable cooperation with Vietinbank in order to support Japanese enterprises investing in Vietnam. MUFG Bank always stands ready to share more experience and knowledge on digital transformation, dealing with credit risks, removing difficulties for enterprises, etc. with Vietnamese partners.
SBV Governor Nguyen Thi Hong expressed her wishes and beliefs that, with the experience and capacity of MUFG Bank, the cooperative relationship between MUFG Bank and Vietinbank would make more contributions to the banking systems of the two countries, contributing to deepening the economic ties between Vietnam and Japan.
