He was appointed as the Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam at the first session of the 13th National Assembly (tenure 2011 – 2016).
On the morning of January 26, 2016, at the 12th National Party Congress, Mr. Nguyen Van Binh was elected official member of the 12th Party Central Committee.
On the following working day of the 12th National Party Congress (January 27, 2016), Mr. Nguyen Van Binh was elected member of the CPV Political Bureau.
