The conference took place at a particularly significant time for Vietnam’s stock market, ahead of the official effective date of the upgrade of Viet Nam's stock market from Frontier Market to Secondary Emerging Market status under the FTSE Russell classification, effective September 21, 2026. The upgrade marks an important milestone, reflecting international recognition of Vietnam’s progress in reforming and strengthening its institutional framework and enhancing the operational capacity of its stock market in recent years.
After 30 years of establishment and development, Vietnam’s stock market has gradually strengthened its market structure, legal framework, and technological infrastructure, while improving market accessibility for both domestic and international investors. These developments have established a solid foundation for the market to achieve its development objectives through 2030.
Following its September 2025 and March 2026 reviews, FTSE Russell announced and confirmed the roadmap for upgrading Vietnam's stock market from "Frontier Market" to "Secondary Emerging Market" status, effective September 21, 2026.
The market upgrade is expected to create opportunities for Vietnam to attract greater international capital inflows, including from active and passive investment funds tracking emerging market indices. At the same time, it is expected to provide further impetus for the Vietnamese stock market to enhance transparency, efficiency, and competitiveness, thereby contributing to the development of a safe, sound, and sustainable capital market.
The conference was organized to officially announce Vietnam’s stock market upgrade to Secondary Emerging Market status under the FTSE Russell classification. It also provided a forum for regulators, international organizations, financial institutions, and members of the investment community to exchange views on the results achieved, the significance of the market upgrade, development orientations, and solutions for the next phase of market development.
One of the key activities of the conference was the gong-striking ceremony marking Vietnam’s official inclusion in the FTSE Emerging Markets Index under the FTSE Russell Global Equity Index Series.

Vietnam is continuing its efforts to develop a dynamic, attractive, and high-potential investment environment for investors from the region and around the world.
Building on the progress achieved, Vietnam will continue to improve the quality of market products and services, strengthen market infrastructure, and enhance the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of the market. Vietnam will also step up dialogue with the investment community and proactively prepare the necessary conditions to pursue higher market classification objectives, in line with the development orientation for Vietnam’s stock market through 2030.
