Governor Le Minh Hung of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Mr. Ousmane Dione, new Country Director of the World Bank (WB) in Vietnam, in Hanoi on September 27.
At the meeting, Governor Le Minh Hung congratulated Mr. Ousmane Dione on taking new task as Country Director of the WB in Vietnam. He expressed his pleasure at meeting Mr. Ousmane Dione again, who supported Vietnam through the implementation of several environmental projects in the previous years. He believed that Mr. Ousmane Dione will continue further supporting Vietnam as taking his new position. SBV Governor asserted that Vietnamese Government highly appreciated the support from the WB for Vietnam’s socio-economic development over the past time, especially in the finance and banking sector, and the formulation of Vietnam’s Report 2035 in line with assessment, orientations and objectives set by 12th National Congress of Communist Party of Vietnam. He requested the WB to support Vietnam for implementing set objectives in the coming time. He went on that in the next period, the priority objectives of Vietnam are to stabilize macro-economy, ensure social protection, proactively handle with climate changes, and ensure the average growth of 6.5% - 7% p.a. Therefore, he said, in the context of facing many difficulties and challenges in the process of integration and economic growth, especially negative effects of climate changes, it is necessary for Vietnam to get support from the WB to successfully implement set objectives. Moreover, he stated that Vietnam spoke highly of the preparation for formulating Country Partnership Framework for Vietnam for new period. In the coming time, the SBV will coordinate with the Ministry of Planning and Investment and the WB to formulate this partnership framework. Regarding to the banking sector, the SBV Governor requested the WB to further support for the restructuring and the resolution of non-performing loans, management and sustainable development.
For his part, Mr. Ousmane Dione discussed several contents to enhance the partnership relation between the WB and Vietnam in the coming time, including the formulation of Country Partnership Framework between WB and Vietnam in the new period, and the priority issues of Vietnam for 2016- 2020 period. After getting information of socio-economic situations and the need of support for Vietnam, he asserted that he will further strengthen the cooperation and support of the WB for Vietnam.
