The Delegation of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) led by Deputy Governor Nguyen Dong Tien attended the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group (IMF/WB 2016) co-organized by WB and IMF in Washington, the United State of America (USA) on October 5-9, 2016.
The meeting focused on international finance – economy over the past time, especially the impact of Brexit event, and re-imbalance of Chinese economy, the movements of macro economy, finance and monetary operation of member countries in the context of low interest rate as well as the orientation, policy solution and international cooperation to overcome the current challenges.
Within the framework of the meeting program, SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Dong Tien attended the meeting between ASEAN Governors and IMF Managing Director, Madam Christine Lagarder to discuss on the progress of ASEAN integration and its impact to the member countries.
At the meeting, the ASEAN Governors briefed Ms Lagarde the macro-economic movement of each country as well as the “Vision for financial integration to 2025” approved by leaders of ASEAN.
Accordingly, financial integration becomes a crucial cooperation pillar, including 3 strategic targets: financial integration, comprehensive finance and stable finance. This is an important forum for IMF to update the ASEAN policy orientation and set up the IMF’s supportive activities in line with the ASEAN’s roadmap, demand and development orientation.
Apart from the series event of official meeting, SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Dong Tien also met Mr Axel Van Trotsenburg, Vice Chairman of WB to discuss on the development collaboration and IDA (International Development Association of WB) 18 assistance for Vietnam. Additionally, the SBV Delegation also worked with several multilateral organizations and international banking corporations to convey the information on the investment and business environment in Vietnam as well as to update relevant orientation and policies of the Government of Vietnam.
