Deputy Governor of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) Nguyen Thi Hong had a work meeting with Director of IMF Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (OAP) based in Japan, Mr. Chikahisa Sumi on February 22, 2017 at the SBV headquarters.
Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong welcomed Mr Chikahisa Sumi on the occasion of his work trip to Vietnam, concurrently congratulated him for being appointed as Director of Regional Office for Asia and the Pacific (OAP) based in Japan.
Deputy Governor expressed her belief that with Chikahisa Sumi’s valuable experience and proficiency, OAP will continue playing its role as a bridge for the IMF and the region of Asia – Pacific, enhancing the importance of IMF in the region, thereby cooperating and supporting Vietnam in general and the SBV in particular more effectively.
Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong spoke highly OAP’s cooperation and support for Vietnam in financial stability, especially in the progress of banking restructuring.
SBV Deputy Governor highly appreciated the training course namely Financial Sector Stability organized by OAP in Danang in October 2015 and hoped to continue cooperating with OAP to organize more training courses on Financial Stability in the coming time. Ms Hong expressed her sincere thanks to the IMF for supporting the SBV on the numerous fields as policy consultancy, training for staffs of several ministries in Vietnam, especially for the SBV. Thanks for those courses on the statistics, macro analysis, financial programming analysis… the learners had more practical knowledge and experience to improve monetary management and macro-economic stability in Vietnam.
Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong briefed the guests the macro-economic context and banking performance of Vietnam over the past time, concurrently stated that in the APEC year 2017, the SBV and Ministry of Finance will co-host a session on global and regional economic-financial outlook. Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong expressed her hope that Mr Chikahisa Sumi, who will deliver a speech as IMF representative, would have valuable analysis and recommendation on global political-economic movements and Vietnam macro-economy.
Before taking the new position, Chikahisa Sumi worked at Asia and the Pacific counties at the IMF headquarters. Mr Chikahisa Sumi asserted that the key tasks of OAP are to improve the capacity and technical assistance for member countries. He expressed his impression on the economic performance of Vietnam as well as SBV’s efforts, and believed that IMF and the SBV will continue cooperate effectively, thereby contributing to the cause of social-economic development of Vietnam.
