According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.23% in February against the previous month, and by 5.02% as compared to that of the same period of 2016.
Specifically, the price of seven groups of commodities out of eleven groups of commodities increased while the price of three groups of commodities decreased. The price of the group of housing and construction materials registered the highest increase of 0.77%. The price of the groups of transport; medicine and health services; culture, entertainment and tourism; other commodities and services; food and catering services; family equipment and appliances increased by 0.56%, 0.22%, 0.15%, 0.14%, 0.11% and 0.05% respectively.
The price of three groups of commodities decreases, of which the price of the groups of postal services; garments; textiles, hats and footwear; beverage and cigarette declined by 0.07%, 0.05% and 0.01% respectively.
The price of education group was unchanged in comparison with the previous month.
The gold price was up by 2.45% while USD depreciated by 0.07% against VND as compared to that of January, 2017.
According to statistics announced by the GSO, core inflation (excluding price of food, foodstuff, energy products and state–managed commodities like healthcare and education services) in February increased by 0.2% as compared to the previous month, and by 1.51% in comparison with the same previous period. The core inflation of the first two months of 2017 rose by 1.69% as compared to the same previous period.
