Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) had a meeting with Citibank delegation led by Mr.Amol Gupte, Citi Country Officer for Singapore and Head of ASEAN, in Hanoi on March 2. Attending the meeting were representatives from SBV International Cooperation Department, Payment Department, Informational Technology Department and specialists from Citibank.
At the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh warmly welcomed the working visit of Citibank delegation to the SBV. He expressed his belief that with existing strength of Citibank and goodwill of the SBV, the two sides would cooperate effectively and get success in applying information technology to the development of modern banking services.
For his part, Mr. Amol Gupte expressed his sincere thanks to Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh for supporting Citibank Vietnam over the past time and reported to the SBV Deputy Governor its newly completed initiative programs like the connection with electronic taxes and customes as well as its plans on strengthening the implementation of initiatives concerning with electronic payment and digitization of payments.
Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh emphasized that the SBV always supported and spoke highly of active research and renovation of banking services at Citibank Vietnam; at the same time, he hoped that, in the coming time, Citibank Vietnam would continue researching for upgrading Program of connecting electronic customs, effectively implement the utilization of electronic vouchers for payment of import goods, thereby contributing to helping enterprises reduce their costs and serving for socio-economic development.
Moreover, the SBV Deputy Governor said that in order to facilitate commercial banks, including Citibank Vietnam, to collect money for the state budget, the SBV already upgraded the inter-bank electronic payment system which allows commercial banks to attach information on collecting money for the state budget on payment order in line with Circular No. 84/2016/TT-BTC of the Ministry of Finance dated June 17, 2016. The SBV hoped that the upgrading of the inter-bank electronic payment system would support for commercial bank in the process of developing electronic payment services in general and collecting money for the state budget in particular.
Also at the meeting, Mr. Amol Gupte exchanged his views on opportunities of supporting the SBV in the implementation of Scheme on cashless payment for 2016 – 2020 period approved by the Prime Minister.
Deputy Governor Nguyen Kim Anh said that with specific objectives of enhancing electronic payment and synchronous mechanism, policies and orientations approved by the Prime Minister, the SBV encouraged Citibank Vietnam and other foreign banks in Vietnam to continue investing and developing electronic payment methods like e-banking, payment via internet and mobile phone… in line with international payment trends, at the same time, ensuring payment convenience, security with appropriate cost, thereby contributing to strengthening electronic payment in particular and developing non-cash payment in Vietnam in general. The SBV also encouraged Citibank Vietnam to share its experience in substances concerning with electronic payment and non-cash payment which Citibank Vietnam has got access to , formulated and developed in Vietnam and other countries.
