Deputy Governor Nguyen Dong Tien of the State Bank of Vietnam – cum – Head of National Coordination Committee of risk assessment on Anti-money laundering and Combating the financing of terrorism, chaired the meeting among a number of members of Steering Committee of Anti-money laundering and APG delegation, UNODC and WB in Hanoi on March 30, 2017.

The meeting was also attended by representatives from the Supreme People’s Procuracy of Vietnam, the Supreme People’s Court; Ministry of Public Security, Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Banking Supervision Agency and Ani-Money Laundering Department of the SBV.
Foreign specialist attending the meeting were Mr. Eliot Kennedy, APG Assistant Secretary; Mr. Chris Batt, UNODC adviser on anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism; and Mr. Alwaleed Fareed Alatabani, WB Senior Specialist on Financial Sector.
The meeting focused on exchanging plans and substances concerning with the implementation of APG multilateral assessment on Vietnam and action plan of Vietnam until 2019.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Dong Tien warmly welcomed the working visit of APG delegation to Vietnam. He expressed his sincere thanks to APG Secretariat, UNODC, WB and specialists for their active contribution to implementing committed action plan. At the same time, he highly appreciated the cooperation of relevant ministries, agencies and entities in the process of anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism over the past time. He hoped that thanks to the assistance of APG Secretariat and the positive coordination of Vietnam’s ministries and agencies, Vietnam would achieve encouraging results in the tasks of anti-money laundering and combating the financing of terrorism, and conduct appropriate measures of preventing this type of crime.
For his part, Mr. Eliot Kennedy spoke highly of the coordination of the SBV and other ministries and agencies. He said APG would continue to cooperate with Vietnamese authorities to implement the requirements of multilateral assessment and to prepare and implement several substances to obtain good results in this assessment process.
