According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) remained unchanged in April as compared to the previous month, increased by 4.3% as compared to that of the same period of 2016, and by 0.9% in comparison with December, 2016. The average CPI of the first 4 months in 2017 increased by 4.8% as compared to that of the same period of 2016.
The price of seven groups of commodities and services out of eleven groups increased in comparison with the previous month. The price of the group of medicine and health services registered the highest increase of 8.05%, followed by the price of the two groups of culture, entertainment and tourism; family equipment and appliances increased by 0.1%. The price of other commodities and services; beverage and cigarette; garments, textiles, hats and footwear; and education increased by 0.08%, 0.06%, 0.02% and 0.01% respectively.
The price of four groups of commodities decreased, of which the price of the groups of transport declined by 1.38%; food and catering services was down by 0.66% (of which the price of food, foodstuff and dining – out services decreased by 0.16%, 0.08% and 1.11% respectively); the price of groups of housing and construction materials and postal services declined by 0.24% and 0.03% respectively.
Apart from this, the gold price was up by 1.01% while the USD depreciated by 0.28% against VND as compared to that of March, 2017.
Core inflation in April, 2017 increased by 0.09% as compared to that of March, 2017 and by 1.50% in comparison with that of 2016. The average core inflation of the first four months of 2017 was up by 1.62% as compared to that of 2016.
