On September 9, 2017, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Governor of the SBV Le Minh Hung had a courtesy meeting with Madam Ping Kitnikone, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Canada to Vietnam.
Governor Le Minh Hung meets with Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam
The meeting was attended by representatives of the International Cooperation Department, the Banking Supervision Agency and Governor Office.
At the meeting, Governor Le Minh Hung affirmed that Vietnamese Government highly appreciated the assistance and support of the Government of Canada for the socio-economic development in Vietnam over the past time, especially in finance and banking field. In particular, the Project of Banking Reform funded by CIDA (Canada) has achieved significant results.
Besides, Governor Le Minh Hung briefed his guests some macro-economic movements, monetary policy management and banking restructuring of Vietnam in the first 8 months of 2017 as well as solutions that the Government, ministries, sectors and the SBV has been conducting. He also expressed his wish that the Government of Canada and the Bank of Canada would continue to provide technical assistance and training courses to Vietnam’s banking industry, and expressed his belief that the Ambassador, during her tenure, would continue to enhance the cooperative relationship between the two countries in general and the two banking sectors in particular.
For her part, Ambassador Kitnikone expressed her pleasure at the cooperation in various fields between the two countries as well as among the SBV and Canadian banks and enterprises operating in Vietnam. She also added that as a development partner of Vietnam, Canada would like to continue developing further cooperation with Vietnam in banking reform, training and education, agriculture and rural development, etc.
The overview of the meeting with Canadian Ambassador to Vietnam
At the meeting, SBV Governor Le Minh Hung and Ambassador Ping Kitnikone had an overview on the cooperation between the two parties, the implementation and the measures to speed up the implementation of project “The Banking Regulation and Supervision Support” (BRASS), project of promoting the People's Credit Fund system funded by Canada's Development International Desjardins, as well as financial inclusion promotion activities in Vietnam.
Expressing her sincere thanks to the Governor of the SBV for welcoming the delegation, Ambassador Ping Kitnikone affirmed that during her tenure, she will do her best effort to actively promote the strategic partnership between the two countries.
