The delegation of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV) led by Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong attended 2017 Annual Meetings of the World Bank Group (WB) and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) held on October 10 – 16, 2017 in Washington D.C, U.S.A.
On this occasion, Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong attended G20 Finance Ministers and Central Bank Governors Meeting. The meeting called on countries to continue enhancing free trade and tightening international cooperation in order to prevent protectionism; while urging countries to rapidly terminate super easy money policy to maintain sustainable debt levels and protect financial stability.
At the same time, the SBV Deputy Governor had meetings with Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, WB Chief Executive Officer; Ms. Christine Lagarde, IMF Managing Director; Ms. Victoria Kwakwa, WB Vice President for East Asia and Pacific; and Mr. Axel Van Trotsenburg, WB Vice President of DFi. At these meetings, she affirmed that Vietnamese Government and the SBV highly appreciated the role of the IMF and the WB in the socio-economic development of Vietnam, especially in the process of formulating mechanism for Vietnam’s graduation from the IDA; supporting Vietnam to maintain position of a middle- income country; completing the Country Partnership Framework with Vietnam for 2018-2022 period in accordance with the objectives of Vietnam Socio-economic Development Plan for 2016-2020 period as well as providing policy consultancy, recommendations, technical assistance and human resource training.
The Deputy Governor expressed her hope that IMF and WB would further support Vietnam in the coming time to successfully implement objectives, keep the achievements and more develop sustainably in the context that Vietnam is one of the most affected countries by natural disasters and climate changes. Moreover, she hoped the cooperative relation between Vietnam and IMF/WB continued to develop effectively.
Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong briefed of macro-economic situations in Vietnam over the past time, and emphasized that Vietnamese Government strictly implemented restructuring objective and committed to the best utilize supporting resources from the WB. For their part, the WB also highly appreciated and congratulated on encouraging results in socio-economic development in Vietnam, and asserted to continue support Vietnam for getting access to grant funding source of the WB and obtaining set objectives.
Besides, the SBV delegation met with MIGA and IFC as well as relevant agencies of the WB and the IMF in order to strengthen the cooperative relation.
