According to the General Statistics Office of Vietnam (GSO), the consumer price index (CPI) increased by 0.51% in January, 2018 against December, 2017, and by 2.65% as compared to that of the same period of 2017.

Specifically, the prices of ten out of eleven groups of commodities increased as compared to the previous month. The price index of the group of medicine and healthcare registered the highest increase of 1.83%; the price of the group of traffic was up by 1.17%; the group of housing and construction materials increased by 0.55%; the group of food and catering services rose by 0.44%; the beverage and cigarette group increased by 0.35%; the group of other commodities and services was up by 0.40%; the garment, footwear and hat group increased by 0.34%; the household appliances and goods increased by 0.16%; the group of the culture, entertainment and tourism went up by 0.07%; and the education group increased by 0.03%
Meanwhile, the price of postal services and telecommunication declined by 0.09%.
The core inflation in January 2018 increased by 0.18% as compared to that of the previous month, and by 1.18% over the same period of 2017.
The gold price was up by 1.69% as compared to the previous month and by 6.7% against that of the same period of 2017; the USD depreciated by 5.38% against the VND as compared to that of December 2017 and by 5.36% in comparison with that of the same period of 2017.
